Home to Hollywood and its many excesses, the City of Angels assumes a
folkloric quality over and above many of its North American
counterparts. The freeways crisscrossing the Los Angeles metropolitan area are your lifelines to the sights, but it takes time to master the maze. Even locals sometimes have trouble getting around this sprawling city.
Immortalized in the film noir ambience of Raymond Chandler's Philip
Marlowe and, more recently, in the James Ellroy's violent portrayal of
the city and its underbelly of power, corruption and lies, Los Angeles
is architecturally and culturally unique. Whether it be architecture,
culture or beaches that you desire, LA is the place to find it. The John
Paul Getty museum, MOCA and the Los Angeles County Museum of Modern Art
offer a challenging selection of exhibitions throughout the year and
suburbs from Downtown to Chinatown show the diverse culture that makes
LA the cosmopolitan melting pot it is today. Theatre is very strong and
the city boasts a wealth of sporting talent. Enjoy your stay!
